VME-PCI link
The VMEbus component VME-PMC-CADDY is a VME64 substrate that can accommodate up to two single-size PMC modules or one dual-size module. UNIVERSE II CA91C142, a VME-PCI bridge from Tundra with an internal clock frequency of 33 MHz, is used to connect to the VMEbus.
VMEbus interface
The design of CA91C142 allows the board to operate as a slave or master station on a VMEbus. As a host, the board supports a level 4 arbitrator. VME-PMC-CADDY operates on VMEbus with a data width of up to 32 bits and 32 address signals.
VMEbus interrupts can be placed on any of the seven interrupt request lines. Connect to the VMEbus via two 160-pin VG connectors that comply with IEC 603-xx and VME64 extensions. Active VMEbus interrupt requests are indicated by a red LED, and VMEbus access to the motherboard is indicated by a yellow LED in the front panel.
PMC plug-in unit
The two PMC slots are designed according to the Draft standard IEEE P1286/Draft 2.0 (except for standard I/O pin wiring). All commercially available PMC modules can be installed. In addition to the transmission connectors for the PMC address/data and control signals, each slot of the VME-PMC-CADDY is equipped with an I/O connector for routing the I/O signals of the PMC module to the VMEbus connector P2.
Two different P2 pin assignments are available: In the default configuration, each P2 pin is connected to only one I/O pin of the PMC module (according to FORCETM’s PMC Update, Table 1, author: Wayne Fischer, Chairman of the CMC/PMC Working Group, Director of Strategic Planning, 22/96).
In the option “-32P”, pin assignment is performed according to IEEE P1386/Draft 2.0 Table 6-3. This pin arrangement allows two PMC modules to be connected via P2 because some PMC I/O signals are juxtaposed on P2.
