The GE IS220PPRFH1A Master Gateway Module is a PROFIBUS Master Gateway pack developed by GE. It is used in the Mark VIe and Mark VIeS series of industrial control systems. The PPRF pack is a PROFIBUS DPV0, Class 1 master that maps I/O from PROFIBUS slave devices to I/O Ethernet Mark VIe controllers.

The module includes a processor board shared by all Mark VIe distributed I/O modules and an acquisition carrier board outfitted with a Hilscher GmbH COM-C PROFIBUS communication module.

The PPRF pack provides a PROFIBUS RS-485 interface via a DE-9 D-sub receptacle connector. It functions as a PROFIBUS DP master, with transmission rates ranging from 9.6 KBaud to 12 MBaud and up to 125 slaves, each with 244 bytes of inputs and outputs.

The PPRF pack supports the following redundancy options:

• Hot backup mode: In this mode, two PPRFs are used, one as the active PROFIBUS master communicating with slave devices and the other in a passive, stand-by mode, ready to become the active master in the event of an active master failure.
• Cold spare mode: In this mode, a single PPRF is used as the active PROFIBUS master, and a spare PPRF is kept offline but powered up. If the active PPRF fails, the spare PPRF can be brought online to become the new active master.

The PPRF pack is also equipped with a number of features that make it suitable for use in demanding industrial applications, such as:

• Wide operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C
• High immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI)
• Conformal coating for protection against moisture and dust
